The Lake of the Ozarks Shoot Out is Less Than a Month Away!
Lake Ozark Vacation Destinations is excited to announce to all of you lake vacationers that the Lake of the Ozark Shootout is coming up, August 26-27. The Shootout is one of the largest events of the year at the Lake of the Ozarks. In this blog, we are pleased to give you detailed information regarding the Shootout and how to go about booking your dream vacation rental at the Lake of the Ozarks for it.
The Lake Rescue Shootout started in 1988. It began as an event where many local boats participated simply to show who had the fastest boat. As time went on, this event became much larger and it also started to help supplement the Lake Area Fire Departments water rescue efforts. In 1988, the Osage Beach, Sunrise Beach, and Lake Ozark Fire Districts participated. In 1996, Gravois and Mid-County Fire Districts joined in the fun. In 2008, Captain Ron's Bar and Grill became the new location for the Shootout. This year, in 2017, new records will be set with a new 3/4 mile course. For the past 28 years, the shootout has been a 1-mile course.
The Lake of the Ozarks Shootout
The Shootout is held at Captain Ron's Bar and Grill at the 33-34.5 mile markers. This is a HUGE event that you CAN NOT miss. There will be top powerboat racers and off shore racing power boats from across the country, topping around 200 miles per hour! This is the largest unsanctioned boat race in the Midwest with over 100 racers and 100,000 spectators. All of the proceeds will benefit the Lake Area Rescue Teams and other charitable organizations. All of the spectators coming to the shootout by water will need to know that the normal wake zone runs from the 31 mile marker to the 36 mile marker from 8 am to 5 pm on Saturday and from 9 am to 3 pm on Sunday, but this year, on Saturday, August 26th the no wake zone will be extended to the 24 mile marker from 2 to 530pm. Please pay attention to the established no-wake zone, but also the extended no-wake zone.
